Acronyms

Here are some common acronyms that you may see on the blog. Hope this helps!

AFC = antral follicle count
AMH = anti müllerian hormone, blood test to estimate ovarian reserve
ART = assisted reproductive technology
ADI = anonymous donor insemination
AI = artificial insemination (most people prefer the term DI or ADI)
BBT = basal body temperature - daily measurement to predict ovulation
BCP = birth control pills
BF = boyfriend
BFN = big fat negative
BFP = big fat positive
CNM = Certified Nurse-Midwife
CA = custody agreement
CO = court order
CS = child support
CVS = chorionic villa sampling, a test for fetal genetic abnormalities
DI = donor insemination (usually anonymous)
dpo = days post ovulation
DS = donor sperm
DVPO = domestic violence protection order
EDD = Estimated Due Date
EOW= every other weekend
FSD = future stepdaughter
FSH = follicle stimulating hormone
FSS = future stepson
GD = gestational diabetes      
GTT = Glucose Tolerance Test
"H" = what I call my boyfriend
HCG= human chorionic gonadotropin. This is both a shot that induces ovulation and is also what is assessed in a blood or urine test for pregnancy. The level of HCG in the blood of a pregnant woman doubles about every other day during the first months of pregnancy.
HPT = home pregnancy test
HSG = hysterosalpingogram, a dye test to see the uterus & if your tubes are open
ICI = intracervical insemination
IF = infertility
IUI = intrauterine insemination
IVF = in vitro fertilization
m/c = miscarriage
ML = maternity leave
M/S - morning sickness
NST = non-stress test
NTT = Not This Time (unsuccessful cycle)
OPK = ovulation predictor kit
Open ID = sperm donor willing to be identified at child’s age of 18
pg = pregnant
POAS = pee on a "stick" (home preg. test)
PUPO = pregnant until proven otherwise
RE = reproductive endocrinologist, fertility specialist
SD = stepdaughter
SS = stepson
TM = their mom (the kids' mom)
TTC = trying to conceive
2ww = 2 week wait (the time between ovulation / insemination and finding out if pregnant)
u/s = ultrasound
TSBC = The Sperm Bank of California
VBAC = vaginal birth after c-section
WBWC = Women's Birth and Wellness Center (my birth center)
